Abstract

This article is based on a survey on how technical and organizational experts in the mining sector in the EU and Australia believe that the green transition will affect the future of mining, competence needs and recruitment of miners. The result shows that the main challenges in recruitment are externalized by pointing to the public's negative attitudes towards mining. Furthermore, it is emphasized that green transition and technological development will change miners' tasks and create new needs of competences. This indicates that employed miners' need for competence development will increase as well as mining companies' need to develop learning organizations.
