Sanningen om kärlek enligt Alain Badiou

Abstract

The main purpose of the article is to analyze Alain Badiou's theory of love. The French atheist approaches the question of love with concepts he developed in L'Être et l'Événement (1988). On his account, love is an en-counter between two others (usually of opposite sexes), based on chance, which becomes an event of metap-hysical character. Love between two lovers does not result in a reduction of the two individuals to one, but rather the two remain two, and experience and live the world precisely as two. This phenomenon of difference and not identity "produces" the truth: love is a "scene of two".
