This article examines Swedish employers’ age-targeted initiatives to support and retain older employees in the context of an extended working life. Based on a national survey of employer representatives (n = 1205), the study shows that while over 80 percent lack formal age-specific policies, many still implement measures driven by organizational, legal, and equal treatment considerations. However, adjustments for older employees are often made reactively rather than proactively, primarily through individual accommodations at the operational level and with an age-neutral approach. The article discusses the potential consequences of employers' actions not always aligning with political objectives to prolong working life.
