Informal caregivers are often a part of the working population. In this study, associations between informal caregiving, work stress, and depressive symptoms was examined, with a consideration of gender differences. Cross-sectional data from the Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health (SLOSH) was used. Informal care and work-related stress were related to worse depression scores. For women, caregiving was associated with worse depression scores, whereas for men, this was only the case if they provided more than five hours of care per week. Expectations and potential lack of recovery time may explain the findings.
