Abstract

This questionnaire study examined, the importance of demands - control and support for managers in the statutory social services to stay in their position 1 year later. Of the investigated work environment variables, only person - role conflict in the form of ethical conflicts and dilemmas together with age and emotional exhaustion significant predicted staying in their position. Also “intention to quit” was predicted by person-role conflict and emotional exhaustion. A conclusion is that identification of ethical conflicts and dilemmas and better
support in ethical difficult decision-making can reduce the proportion managers who consider leaving.
