Abstract

There are high hopes that the fourth industrial revolution, whose main drivers are usually boiled down to a combination of digitization, automation and artificial intelligence. But how is this imminent technological change addressed by workers? This issue is explored in this essay. By focusing on self-driving buses, this essay explores how bus drivers and union representatives think of the expected consequences of automation on their work. The essay accounts for their expectations and discusses possible consequences, both positive and negative, of this impending technological change.
