Abstract

This study examines factors contributing to turnover among a cohort of younger police officers (N=717) in Sweden. Data from the admission process (T1-2008), after one year of duty (T2-2011) and after seven years of duty (T3-2017) were analyzed. Findings show a rather low turnover (7,4%) and few differences between stayers and leavers. Low organizational commitment after one year’s service was the strongest predictor of turnover. Thus, actions targeting a stronger organizational commitment during early career are recommended.
