Abstract

Research is an activity inherently rooted in the discussions,
inspiration and criticism between scientists. Such interaction occur in a
plethora of varieties ranging from conferences and workshops, that last for
several days, to casual corridor conversations with colleagues.
Here we present results based on a survey sent to different departments at
the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science at Lund University.
In recent surveys, at Lund University and LTH, the lack of seminars has
been highlighted, since they have been considered the de facto venue for
scientific discussions. However, the term seminar is understood as different
activities across different fields, complicating the assessment of scientific
discussion based on seminars and their frequency.
With the aim of improving the quality of the doctoral formation a relevant
question is: Where are the scientific discussion occurring and which venues
are considered best by those involved?
