Abstract

The laboratory work and exercises are an established part of chemistry at higher education. However, it is still discussed how these practical activities are linked to the theory given in the lectures and thereby serving as a successful deeper approach learning method. This project aimed to investigate the extent of the gap between the lectures and laboratory work and how this gap can be narrowed. Several teaching assistants and course leaders have been interviewed in order to assess the current gap at the Chemical Centre (Lund). The survey showed scattered results that are depending on the course level and facilities. Several suggestions to improve bridging between the laboratory work and theory include e.g. a better communication, proper design of the laboratory exercises, writing reports and having oral presentations with discussions.
