Abstract

This work will focus on the possibility of using personality profiles as a psychological
consulting tool along with the teaching. The central question will be how to distinguish a
student’s personality and how we can adapt our teaching methods in order to sustain or
even improve student motivation. The report will first give a small introduction to the
subject starting with describing laboratory exercises and then move onto to discuss group
dynamics and what motivates students. After a small introduction to MBTI we will
proceed with discussing the most typical student personalities at a technical university
and their behaviour. Examples will be made on how different personalities can act and
interact with each other during a laboratory exercise. Suggestions to improve the teaching
in each case will be discussed. Furthermore the ethical concerns of using personality test
as a technique in teaching will also be raised and discussed.
