Abstract

One important role of a PhD-student supervisor is to communicate very early on in the Education the thesis requirements to the student and to ensure that the level of requirement communicated/required/achieved matches the commonly accepted requirements within ones faculty/field. Although no number ever explicitly appears in any of the published guidelines, it is evident that “sufficient”, “average” and “good” in terms of published papers can be defined, according to the practice and the expectations of the scientific community. This study aims at finding out what these numbers, equally important for the student and the supervisor, actually are at LTH, as well as understanding how does the practice differ among and within divisions.
