Imaginære rejser ind i de hellige fortællinger
Med Romanos Melodos som rejsefører
Abstract
The Byzantine poet Romanos the Melodist (AD 485–560) retold biblical stories in a way which allowed his listeners to “enter” these stories and stand face to face with Mary, Jesus, the disciples and even Hell. In modern narratology this phenomenon is known as metalepsis. In this article, the retold biblical stories in the hymns of Romanos are analysed with a focus on different kinds of metalepsis where the poet crosses the time and place of the told, addresses his characters or lets them speak words that have a double relevance: both for their interlocutors in the storyworld and the listeners listening to Romanos’ hymns.
