The harbour crane in Bamberg was built in 1849 by the machine factory Spaeth & Companie, Nürnberg, and is listed as heritage in Bamberg. With its cast iron construction and a wooden crane arm it is a symbol of the earlier industrial period but also the industrial “take off” in Germany. As Industrial heritage is an important material witness of the industrialization it is important to document. The article aims to compare three methods of 3D documentation and the possibilities to combine them using the example of the crane construction with a dark coating, making the documenting process more complicated. The documenting methods (hand held structured light scanner Artec EVA, terrestrical laser scanner Faro Focus S350, Photogrammetry) and the workflow, collecting and processing data, are shown. The results are presented and discussed, concluding that all methods work well but each has pros and contras that can be minimized by combining the methods.
