Abstract

In order to investigate the need of various approaches to supervision in different phases of
doctoral studies a web-survey was conducted at Lund Institute of Technology. Forty-one PhD
students stated their perceived supervision in ten general statements corresponding to five
approaches to five approaches to doctoral supervision. Based on the findings it is possible to
conclude that the students in general are positive . However, some areas have been identified
where supervision could be improved. Most of all the students require more attention and general
support.
