Abstract

Most learning activities in university courses are designed to happen on-site with the teacher and students being in the same room. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the teaching style has been shifted to an almost exclusively online format through use of dierent video conferencing softwares. The challenge arising from this abrupt shift is understanding how the study experience has changed for students and whether parts of the new online format should be incorporated in courses moving forward. Here we show that both teaching approaches have certain qualities and drawbacks and thus have suggested a hybrid format of teaching moving forwards. The online and on-site teaching were compared by looking at physical and social working environments. The two parameters were explored based on existing research and student interviews that were conducted as a part of this study.
