Abstract

In the syllabus of the engineering programs at Lund University Faculty of Engineering, it is stated that the student should “demonstrate the ability to make assessments informed by relevant disciplinary, social and ethical issues and also to demonstrate awareness of ethical aspects of research and development work”. To test if this statement in the syllabus is fulfilled during the education, a questionnaire was distributed to third-year students at the Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Engineering Mathematics programs and interviews with key-persons from the program managements have been conducted. The result from the questionnaire was analyzed and it was concluded that ethical aspects could have been discussed more within the education and that many students are positive to including more information regarding ethical considerations in the education. The questionnaire also showed that roughly half of the students are aware of the requirements in the syllabus.
