Abstract

As educators it is essential to consider the experiences of people in other nations as relevant for
the improvement of education and learning. Institutions create contexts and experiences where
teachers and prospective teachers develop their knowledge, skills and dispositions to teach from
an international multicultural perspective. A meaningful way to produce knowledge is to inquire
into what others engaged in related teaching or research find to be effective in their context. It is
essential that such knowledge is made public to a broader audience. (Olmedo & Harbon, 2010)
Our current project aims to look at the experiences of teachers abroad, some of the major
challenges that they face and the emerging concerns. We also tried to collect some
recommendations for our expatriate colleagues to be able overcome the difficulties and have a
more pleasant period in a foreign country.
