Out of classroom activities - Field trips and related problems

Abstract

We explore the practical and pedagogical problems of taking students out of the classroom and into the field. We discuss solutions to many common problems that may occur and we discuss several pedagogical tricks and techniques that can be utilized in the field. We try to contrast the positive and negative aspects of field excursions and try to convince the reader that taking students out of the classroom is well worth it, although it does need careful planning.
