Abstract

Advancements in teaching and learning due to the increase in technology and its availability are many. The introduction of the flipped classroom is one such case. Flipped classroom is a teaching method where the traditional in-class out-of-class events interchange. Implementation in an upcoming course is described and discussed followed by an investigation into the pros and cons. It was found that the flipped classroom improves attainment of learning outcomes and encourages student cooperation, stimulates problem solving techniques as well as promotes discussion. The negative factors noted were preparation and work load based, logistical prerequisites and psychological and cultural issues.
