Abstract

In this paper we consider the problem of constructing exercises and problems that encourage and enable students to take on a deep approach to learning. Well known concepts such as motivation, transfer of learning and constructive alignment are discussed in the context of problem solving. Several ideas and guidelines for constructing good problems are presented and even though learning styles are very individual, it is argued that these ideas can help constructing better problems.
