Motivation among students: How to increase both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in teaching situations

Abstract

Motivation is considered as a key aspect at all educational levels, including in higher education. The distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation influences both academic performance and educational approaches. Intrinsic motivation is an important reflecting and innate propensity to learn and incorporate the knowledge where external- regulation controls the extrinsic motivation. The interrelation between motivation, self-efficacy and approaches to studying are addressed in this paper. Different case studies are presented as well as the relation between motivation and learning approaches. Writers have tried to bring up some personal experience for different motivating factors of Six C: s model and their relation with having a positive motivating climate in classes.
