Grading can have negative effects on mental health, motivation and performance of learners, as many studies show. This essay reviews literature on grading and ungrading, introduces alternative assessment methods and lastly presents the results of a small opinion survey of students and teachers at Lund University. We conclude that the request and interest for alternatives to grading is presented both in literature and the participants of the survey.
