The challenge of addressing the knowledge gap in academic teaching has generated significant attention over the years. While existing literature often focuses on students with lower prior knowledge, this report explores the less studied impact on students with higher prior knowledge. The purpose of this work is to investigate the effects of the knowledge gap on students with a higher level of prior knowledge and to identify measures that teachers can adopt to facilitate engagement to this group of students. To investigate this, the report reviews relevant literature and conducts interviews with experienced teachers at LTH. The interview findings reveal varying approaches to assessing and addressing the knowledge gap among teachers. Strategies to engage advanced students include offering a "fast track" option, providing special challenges, group work, optional lectures, and involving them as teaching assistants. In conclusion, this study contributes to the existing literature by exploring the ramifications of the knowledge gap on students with higher prior knowledge. Moreover, this work provides insights into practical approaches for addressing the knowledge gap and enhancing learning outcomes for these students.
