Rules and obedience – a question of effective communication in crisis

Although Sweden has not taken drastic measures during the pandemic as a total lockdown, a number of restrictions and regulations have been issued and have had great impact on society and everyday life. Many have been unclear, issued with short notice and later changed in a way that created confusion in people. Getting people to loyally follow edicts during an acute and prolonged crisis requires good crisis communication. The Swedish ability to deal with acute crises has been studied a number of times in recent years but still there is a lesson to be learned. Critical voices have already been raised regarding the management of the pandemic.
