Abstract

In this article, the use of History via humour on the Internet memes is examined from a history-cultural point of view. By focusing on memes with historical references combined with US History and current president Donald Trump, I have narrowed down the vast number of memes available. The memes could be put into two groups; memes that combine present-day politics and uses of history, and those that create humour through incongruity. This research shows that ideological, political-pedagogic and moral uses of history are most common, but also the presence of misuse and none-use of history. Through memes, the Internet shows how it can work as an arena for historic consciousness and historic culture.
