Abstract

To manage is to ignore - on the management techniques of the Swedish government administration. 'Management by results' has been a favourite management concept for the Swedish Government sector since the mid 1980s. In this article, it is argued that the Government, if it wants to adhere to the management principles of delegation and long-term commitments, cannot respond to all the information that is delivered by the administration. Instead, the Government must enhance its proficiency to ignore. This will be made easier by a change of procedures, or inadequate resources in Government offices.
