A review of how technology can enhance learning
Abstract
Countries throughout the world have invested millions to billions of dollars in funding technology for educational purposes. There is a general assumption that implementing learning software and devices into the classroom improves the educational experience of students. However, how exactly technology enhances learning may be less clear. The implementation of various technologies in the classroom and its effect on learning has been the focus of numerous studies, especially over the past two decades. For this project, we review the literature and synthesize specific ways in which two popular learning apps, Socrative and Google Jamboard, can best be implemented in the classroom. We also connect the published literature on these two apps to learning theory and dissect how these apps are enhancing learning. We found that Google Jamboard was received by students as a user-friendly app that enhanced learning by increasing student participation and boosted student performance. Socrative was found to improve class dynamism and possibly improve exam scores.
