Course in Othorhinolaryngology
Medicine (Perspectives on Course Design) 2021-12-20
Abstract
The courses in Malmö and Helsingborg have been quite different to the one in Lund, however, there is a wish for more uniformity, and, above all, that the cases used should be the same at all three sites. Thus, there is first of all a need to develop learning outcomes that are in alignment with current recommendations (eg being possible to examine) and taxonomies [1]. In addition, there is also a need to cover some general knowledge that students on the ENT course used to have, but don´t anymore due to the moving of the course to an earlier term, for a modernisation of the learning activities in order to stimulate active learning and to coordinate the course content for all three sites.
The learning outcomes are completely reconstructed, but are based on the long list developed by SFOHH, which can hardly be ignored. This list, in full, has then been restructured to fit the order of the learning outcomes, and can be found below under “Contents”. The changes in the learning activities include a flipped classroom during the examination practicals and cases. One half-day in the operating theatre has been omitted in favour of workshops with patient representatives and associated professionals such as speech and hearing therapists. A feedback session after the written test is introduced, along with a portfolio.
