Teaching biobank concepts by using Team-Based Learning method (TBL)

A team-based learning instructional activity was designed for the implementation of TBL in the teaching of biobanking. The main concepts for TBL were implemented in this work and only slight variations of the activity sequences reported in the literature were performed. The proposed sequence has six main activities in approximately three hours: 1) The individual preparation 2) Brief introduction to TBL 3) Individual test 4) Introduction to biobank application, 5) Application tasks activity, 6) Students feedbacks (anonymous mini survey). Passing the course, the students will be able to: 1) To demonstrate to colleagues or individuals in society why the biobanks are important for research. 2) To understand the biobanking process in order to design experiments. 3) To apply critical thinking on matters related to ethical issues regarding biobank.
