The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a sudden change in the teaching situation. In this study we identify and analyze difficulties of conducting a thermodynamics laboratory exercise remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. We analyze the pedagogical challenges teachers and students could face due to the transition, and propose how the remote laboratory exercise could be improved from a pedagogical perspective. We also discuss how these suggestions can be applied to other similar experimental laboratory exercises.
