Abstract

Swedish Ethnological Bibliography - A project in the Nordiska museet's library and a new data base Since late summer, 2001, there is a computerised ethnological bibliography in the Nordiska museet's library called the Swedish Ethnological Bibliography (SEB). The new bibliography is accessible in the library’s database SAGA (nordmlib.nordm.se). The work with the bibliography forms an integral part of a larger bibliographical project benevolently financed by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation. One might say that this ethnological bibliography is a continuation of a bibliographical work performed by librarians in the museum library for a very long period of time. Ever since 1917 there has been an annual Swedish ethnological contribution in the German lnternationale Volkskundliche Bibliographie (IVB) primarily based on the library's accession of ethnological literature. SEB contains ethnological and folkloristic references, articles and monographs, primarily written by Swedish ethnologists and folklorists. Today, December 2001, SEB contains only a few hundred references but within a month or so the content will have increased to several thousands by the supply of an earlier digitalized material. The aim of the project is also to bring older ethnological material in the library into the SEB data base, such as the old IVB material. In April 2002 the Nordiska museet will arrange a conference where the library will present the new Swedish Ethnological Bibliography and its usefulness for ethnological research.
