Author Guidelines

The editors welcome submissions from various academic disciplines and research areas that are of relevance for the multidisciplinary study of human rights. Regarding the profile and editorial policy of the journal, see “About the journal”. The editors assume no responsibility for unsolicited submissions. A text submitted to Provocatio may not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal.

Manuscripts should be submitted as an attachment to an e-mail message to provocatio@mrs.lu.se. Articles should not exceed 4000 words (including footnotes and references but excluding abstract). Essays, reflections, and book reviews should not exceed 2000 words. If you wish to review a book, please consult the editors first to get an assessment of whether the book suits the journal and to make sure that a review of that book is not already underway.

Manuscript preparation guidelines:

•      Manuscripts should be submitted as Word-files.

•      The text should be set in Times, 12 points, double spacing.

•      Article submissions should include a 150 word abstract, and 3-6 keywords.

•      Use no more than one level of subheadings.

•      The journal uses the Oxford referencing style (also known as the Documentary-note style), with references in footnotes. The first time a source is cited, the footnote must provide full bibliographic details. In subsequent references to the same source, use only author surname, year of publication, and page number. Avoid use of abbreviations like ibid. and op cit. All sources must be collected in a list of references, in alphabetic order, at the end of the paper.

•      Short quotations should be included in the main text, within quotation marks. Quotations that exceed 3-4 lines of text should be set off from the main text, as a block quote, without quotation marks.

•      To quotations in a language other than English, a translation or explanation should be added.

•      If the manuscript is to include diagrams, graphics, pictures or other illustrations, and if these are submitted separately, it must be clearly indicated where in the text they are supposed to go. Images of any kind must be high resolution, print quality. Authors must secure permission to use any images submitted.
