Abstract

The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about the work environmental risks related to teachers’ parental contacts. Parental contacts can be stressful and take time away from teaching. The empirical material consists of semi-structured interviews with 10 principals and 17 teachers working in Swedish schools, grades 7–9. The results show four work environment risks; quick feedback when parents contact, availability during evenings and weekends, use of private mobile phones and flexibility with parents’ wishes. These work environment risks can contribute to teachers' ill health both by increasing stress at work and by making recovery more difficult.
