Abstract

This report is an outcome of a project on assessment of laboratory work in
undergraduate courses. The assessment of laboratory work often does not contribute
significantly to the overall student evaluation. Our aim was to address the question if
the student skills in the laboratory work could be assessed using a grading system that
could in turn influence the total grades of the course, and if so what assessment
methods would be valid. Our study combines the review of literature dealing with
laboratory work and its assessment with our own findings from a questionnaire
administered to students and teachers within the Masters program of Chemical
engineering.
