Expectations on PhD studies – doctoral students versus their supervisors

Abstract

Our overall aim is to see whether there are general differences in the expectation of the PhD
students and their supervisors on supervision during PhD studies. We want to investigate
whether the discussion, based on a tool, called “Discussion Material for Newly Accepted PhD students and their Supervisors” (DM), clarify and establish for both parties on their roles,
expectations and duties and therefore to conclude whether the DM can be used as a
recommended tool. Furthermore, we suggest some improvements of the DM.
